Phinisi 30 m in Bali

A phinisi is a traditional Indonesian wooden schooner still built by Konjo shipwrights in South Sulawesi; the art of phinisi boatbuilding is on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Modern phinisi of around thirty metres combine classic rigs and teak decks with hotel-standard, air-conditioned cabins. Each one is unique, as they are still built largely by hand.

From Bali, phinisi run sunset cruises and day trips to Nusa Penida, but their real strength is multi-day voyages to Lombok and Komodo National Park. A crew of around ten includes a chef and often a dive guide. Five cabins typically sleep ten guests overnight. It is less a boat rental than a true voyage through Indonesia's islands.
