Catamaran charter in the Seychelles is the defining way to holiday on a yacht here. The islands sit close together, coves of white sand and pink boulders are often reachable only from the sea, and a wide deck plus shallow draft let you anchor right off the beach and go ashore by tender.

All five models take twelve guests by day. The 13.7-metre Leopard 45, with its forward cockpit and four en-suite cabins, sails with a single skipper and is the simplest, most practical option. The Lagoon 46, just under 14 metres, has a big flybridge, kayak, SUP and solar panels for long spells at anchor. The 13.45-metre Fountaine Pajot Elba 45 is loved for its upper lounge and handy galley. The 14.6-metre Bali 4.8 has a tilting door that merges saloon and cockpit into one open space and fits up to five cabins. The 16-metre Leopard 53 Powercat is a motor catamaran with up to 20 knots and air conditioning for anyone who would rather not rely on the wind.

Two couples or a family with children fit easily on any of the sailing catamarans, a large family is best on the Bali 4.8, and if you want to cover more islands in the week, go for the Powercat.

Where you go

The catamarans leave Eden Island Marina near Victoria on Mahé or Baie Sainte Anne on Praslin. The classic week links Praslin's Anse Lazio and St Pierre islet, Curieuse with its giant tortoises, La Digue with a bike ride to Anse Source d'Argent, and Félicité and Coco Island. A day charter usually runs from Mahé to Sainte Anne Marine Park.

Marinas

When to go

You can sail year-round, but the sea is calmest in April–May and October–November, between the trade-wind seasons. From June to September the southeast wind is stronger, which is exhilarating under sail but makes passages brisk. Most charters are a week, with three-day trips to Praslin and La Digue as a shorter option.

Catamaran charter in the Seychelles: FAQ

How many people fit on a catamaran in the Seychelles?

By day any of the five models takes up to twelve guests. For a week, four cabins suit two couples or a family, and the five-cabin Bali 4.8 works for a group of up to ten.

Can we sleep on board?

Yes, that is the main format: you live aboard and anchor in a new bay each evening. The skipper picks spots sheltered from the wind and knows where anchoring is permitted in the marine parks.

Sailing catamaran or Powercat?

A sailing catamaran is quieter, cheaper to run and gives a true feel of the sea in the trade winds. The Leopard 53 Powercat covers passages in roughly half the time, with air conditioning, but its fuel is usually paid separately.

Does a catamaran suit a family with children?

Yes, especially the Leopard 45 and Bali 4.8: a steady deck, bow nets and short hops between islands. Request children's life jackets in advance.
