Catamaran charter in Bali is the most relaxed way for a big group to spend a day at the neighbouring islands. Current and chop in the Badung Strait can be noticeable, so twin hulls are a practical choice rather than a luxury: the boat heels less, and on the wide deck the kids play on the nets while the adults stretch out at the bow.

The 12.8-metre Lagoon 42 takes up to 15 guests, carries kayaks and SUPs and suits a family day among Lembongan's coves. The Lagoon 450, just under 14 metres, is rated for 20 with a crew of three; from its flybridge on a clear day you can see the Nusa Penida cliffs and Mount Agung, and a tender plus water toys add variety to each stop. Both have four cabins.

By day these catamarans host birthdays, hen parties and family occasions; over several days they become an alternative to a phinisi, sleeping up to eight and heading for the Gilis, Lombok or even Komodo. If there are more than fifteen of you, go for the Lagoon 450; a smaller group will be happy on the Lagoon 42.

Where you go

The catamarans leave Benoa Harbour, occasionally Serangan. A day route crosses to Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan for the Blue Lagoon, the Yellow Bridge, snorkelling at Crystal Bay or Manta Point and lunch at anchor in a cove. Multi-day trips head east to the Gili Islands and Lombok, and further via Sumbawa to Labuan Bajo.

Marinas

  • Benoa Harbour (Bali Marina)
  • Serangan
  • Sanur
  • Labuan Bajo (for Komodo cruises)

When to go

The best season is April to October, when it is dry and the water is clear. In the rainy months from November to March trips still run, but they leave earlier while conditions are calmer. A day charter usually fills the daylight hours, sailing in the morning and returning to Benoa before dark.

Catamaran charter in Bali: FAQ

How many guests fit on a catamaran in Bali?

The Lagoon 42 takes 15 and the Lagoon 450 takes 20. Overnight, either sleeps up to eight in four cabins. For a family with toddlers the Lagoon 42 is the easier choice, with fewer people aboard and kids easier to keep an eye on.

Is a catamaran a good idea for people who get seasick?

Yes, it is the best option: two hulls damp the motion far better than a monohull. There can still be a swell in the strait, so pack a seasickness remedy anyway.

Can we celebrate on board?

Yes, birthdays and hen parties are common on the Lagoon 450. The crew can help with decorations and a cake, and the day can end with sunset beneath the Uluwatu cliffs.

Do catamarans go to Komodo?

Yes, as a multi-day trip via the Gilis and Sumbawa to Labuan Bajo. These routes are planned well ahead and most often sailed in the dry months from April to September.
